FURNITURE DESIGNER AND MAKER - TASMANIA
Born in Newcastle, NSW Simon moved to Hobart, Tasmania with his family in 1980. He studied Furniture Design at the University of Tasmania, completing an Honours degree in 2000. Ancher worked from the Designer Makers Cooperative workshop in North Hobart, where he developed a successful practice specialising in one off commissioned work and interior fit-outs before moving to Launceston in order to study Environmental Design in 2003. It is here that he met his wife Lisa and together they run the Studio.
In March 2015 Simon and Lisa opened the Studio to the public in a heritage listed warehouse at 120 St John Street, Launceston. The space comprises of studio/showroom of Simon's handcrafted furniture as well as Australian brands such as Armadillo & Co, Cocoflip and InBed. Simon was the Program Director of Furniture Design at UTAS for 10 years and decided to focus full time on his growing business in mid 2016.
