Hydrowood is a project that will see wood lost in the past, recovered for the future. Specialty timbers including Huon Pine, Sassafras and Myrtle as well as Eucalyptus and Blackwood have laid dormant on the floor of the Pieman River Dam on Tasmania’s rugged West Coast since the 50 kilometre site was flooded in the 1970s. Now, these sought after timbers are set to be sustainably salvaged for use by furniture designers, woodworkers as well as in high-end residential and commercial construction. Covered under internationally recognised forestry standards, Hydrowood will be sold to customers as a certified product with a story to tell.
